Services for Dixie Alford Cleveland, 71, of Decatur, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Forest Grove Christian Church…. Burial was in Forest Grove Cemetery. Ms. Cleveland died Saturday, Feb. 26, in Decatur.
She was born July 17, 1933, in Forest Grove to Emory James and Annie (Matthews) Alford.
Ms. Cleveland lived most of her life in the Forest Grove community and Rockdale, but also lived eight years in Fort Worth and the last two years in Decatur. She worked for SBC in Fort Worth, was a Chamber of Commerce secretary in Rockdale and worked 20 years as a guard at Texas Utilities in Rockdale until she retired in 1994. Ms. Cleveland was a graduate of Rockdale High School and a member of Forest Grove Christian Church and the Rockdale VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She always had a smile and knew no strangers.
Ms. Cleveland was preceded in death by her parents, Emory James Alford and Annie Alford; a sister, Lucille Young; and three brothers, Emory O. Alford, Billy Alford and Jack Alford.
Survivors are a son, Robert Cleveland and wife Jannett of Paradise; a grandson, Travis Emery Cleveland of Dallas; a granddaughter, Rose Cleveland of Stephenville; and three sisters, Mary Harris, Annie Mae McKee and Carrie Guthrie, all of Fort Worth.
Pallbearers were James McKee, Ray Harris, Clay Bibb, Charles Alford, Howard Drummond, James Roy Young, Lee Young, Ray Daniel, James Bratton and Daryl Lee Young....
