James William McKenzie, son of Alexander and Amelia McKenzie, was born in Roseville, Illinois, June 20, 1884, and died July 21, 1961, at the age of 77 years and one month.

At the age of three months he came with his parents by covered wagon to Republic County, Kansas where he grew to manhood. In 1909 he took a homestead six miles south of Colome, South Dakota.

He was united in marriage to Hazel Stone on May 30, 1926. To this union was born three children, Harold of Bell, California, Lawrence of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Mavis of Osceola.

In 1935 they moved to Keya Paha County where he was engaged in ranching and farming until his health failed and they moved to Springview.

He joined the Methodist Church at an early age and was a member of the Springview Methodist Church at the time of his death.

He is survived by his wife, Hazel, his three children, three grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Orpha Campbell, Long Beach, California, Mrs. Flora Wilcox and Mrs. Gertrude Whitmer, Compton, California; two brothers, Orville McKenzie, Belleville, Kansas and Harry McKenzie, Stuart, Nebraska.
