The Reading Eagle Newspaper carried her obituary January 23, 1882, page 1. As follows:
"Prothonotary Althouse's Mother Dead"
Mrs. Catherine Althouse, widow of the late Daniel Althouse, died yesterday morning at the residence of one of her sons, J. Paris Althouse, 231 North 9th Street, with who she resided the past six months. Her disease was dropsy, from which she suffered about 3 months. She was born in Maidencreek Twp.
Deceased was the mother of 12 children, 10 boys and 2 girls, only 4 of whom are living- William D. Althouse, prothonotary of Berks County, Daniel, J. Paris and George. The husband of the deceased died in Exeter Township 22 years ago, and her remains will be buried by the side of his grave in the cemetery at Schwarzwald Church. About 20 years ago, Mrs. Althouse removed from Exeter to this city, and resided here ever since. She was always in excellent health up to the time she became afflicted with dropsy a few months ago.
