Herman W. Schumacher, 77, lifelong Rock county resident and a former General Motors employee, died at 9:30 p. m. Friday in his home, 518 S. Academy street, following two months illness.

Born July 31, 1869, in Janesville, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Schumacher and attended St. Paul school. He was confirmed in St. Paul Lutheran church, April 2, 1882, and on Oct. 10, 1892, was married to Augusta Bienash of Center township. They farmed in Center township until 1924 when they moved to Janesville. Mr. Schumacher was a General Motors employee until 1940.

Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mmes August Kersten, Otto Manthei, Earl Ellis and Thurlow Bouton, all of Janesville, and Mrs. Herman Korban, Clinton; three sons, Frank, George and Theodore Schumacher, all of Janesville; 26 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Two sons preceded him in death.

The funeral will be held at 2 p. m. Monday in St. Paul church, the Rev. E. A. L. True officiating, and burial will be in Bethel cemetery, Center township.
