Lt. Col. (Ret) Durward Brandon of Fredericksburg, Texas passed from this life on Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at his residence in Fredericksburg at the age of 86 years.

Services will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Santa Anna Cemetery Pavilion with Rev. James Hart officiating, with military honors accorded by the United States Air Force. Interment will follow at Santa Anna Cemetery with services under the direction of Henderson Funeral Home of Santa Anna. The family will greet friends Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Henderson Funeral Home.

Durward was born August 29, 1923 in Voss, Texas, the son of John Richard and Willie Mabel Rose Brandon. On September 11, 1975 Durward married Nardine Hirashima in Carson City, Nevada and they have celebrated nearly 35 years of marriage. He enlisted in the U. S. Army on February 13, 1943 in Long Beach, California and was discharged after over 32 years of service on August 31, 1976 at Sunnyvale Air Force Station, California. He was awarded the Air Medal, AF Commendation Medal, Service Medals, Japan, Korea and Vietnam, National Defense Medal, AF Command Pilot Wings, and Senior Missile man Badge.

Survivors include his wife, Nardine Hirashima Brandon of Fredericksburg, Texas; a daughter, Lorena McCartney and domestic partner Armand Sider of Beaumont, Texas; a son, John Brandon and wife Jan Mayulianos of Schertz and Universal City, Texas; three grandchildren, Ashley Meier of Roseville, California, Lindsey Brandon and Alex Brandon, both of Universal City, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Joey Meier and Sabastian Meier of Roseville, California, and Hayden Brandon of Universal City, Texas; and two sisters-in-law, Marva Brandon of Lake Almanor, California, and Bobbie Brandon of La Palma, California.

Durward was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard O. Brandon, and two brothers, Richard Brandon and Ralph Deming Brandon.
