Dorothy Mae Kauffman, 91, died Thursday, March 31, 2005 at DeWitt Community Hospital.

She was born July 31, 1913 in Tigerton, Wisconsin the daughter of Edwin and Elizabeth (Edeler) Heger. Dorothy was baptized by Rev Ziebrandt on August 24, 1913 in St John's Lutheran Church at Tigerton, Wisconsin. She was confirmed in St John's Lutheran Church in Tigerton on May 20, 1928 by Rev Ziebrandt. In 1932, Dorothy graduated from Marathon County Normal School of Wausau, Wisconsin.

She married Harold Kauffman on February 14, 1936 in Tigerton. Harold died December 21 1980. They lived in Bowler, Wisconsin for 2 years. During that time she taught school in Bowler and in Tigerton. Harold and Dorothy moved to DeWitt in April 1938.

The Kauffman's became members of Grace Lutheran Church in May 1938. Dorothy was active in many church activities, as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, the choir, a member of Grace Lutheran Women, the Anna Circle and a member of the Adult Bible Study class. She also volunteered at the Davenport Lutheran Home.

Dorothy was very active in various community affairs, belonging to the Hospital Auxiliary and the Retired Senior Volunteer People. She enjoyed writting poetry, short stories, painting and artwork.

Surviving her include her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Evelyn Kauffman, Hayward, Wisconsin; 2 daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Charles Duenckel, Jefferson City, Missouri and Beth and Kim Haring, DeWitt; 9 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, 4 brothers and 4 sisters.

Funeral services were at 1:00pm on Monday, April 4, 2005 at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Rev Keith Speaks and Garland Gotoski officiated.

Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers were Tim Kauffman, Brian Kauffman, Gail Duenckel, Chris Haring, Mark Kauffman, Dawn Dunndegan, Curt Duenckel, Corey Duenckel, Justin Kauffman and John Dunnegan.

Visitation was from 3:00 until 7:00 on Sunday, April 3, 2005 at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.
