Long time Sacramento resident Donald Wayne Dowlearn, age 83, died on August 14, 2010 at home in Sacramento, California due to complications of Parkinson's disease.

Don was born in San Antonio, Texas on September 3, 1926, the third son of Mattie Mae and Hollis Dowlearn, Sr. He attended local San Antonio schools while growing up, then attended college at Millsaps College, Louisiana Polytechnic College and The University of Oklahoma at Norman, OK as a part of the Navy College program. Upon graduation from the University of Oklahoma, Don entered the US Marine Corps, from which he retired in July of 1964. Subsequently, he completed advanced degrees at CSU Sacramento and UC Davis and worked for the State of California for seventeen years, retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his wife Phyllis, his daughter Susan and husband Tom Odeski of Dallas, Texas and their children, Amanda, Tommy, Rebecca and Benjamin, and his son Mark Dowlearn and wife Melisa of Auburn, California and their children Sarah, Emily and Melody. He is also survived by his older brother James Dowlearn and wife Esther of Blanco, Texas and other nieces and nephews in Texas and the greater San Antonio area.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Jo Nell and his eldest brother Hollis Dowlearn.
