Mr. Mariott Rickman "Rick" Capps, 98, formerly of 187 Sharon School Road in Statesville, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003 at Mountain Ridge Wellness Center in Black Mountain.

He was born March 22, 1905 in Hendersonville to the late James Frederick Capps and Dollie Capps Capps. He formerly worked as a dairyman at the Biltmore Estate and retired from Old Fort Finishing Plant as a painter. He was a member of Beulah Baptist Church in Statesville and was a member and former teacher in the Adult men's #2 Sunday school class. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Selma Harrison Capps on March 15, 2001. He was also preceded in death by five brothers and one sister. He served for four years in the Navy.

Survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Barbara KIsselburg and her husband, James, of Old Fort, Mrs. Nancy Benfield and her husband, Gordon, of Wikesboro, Mrs. Sarah Morrow and her husband, Gene, of Statesville and Mrs. Nina Houston and her husband, Fred, also of Statesville. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at Beulah Baptist Church in Statesville with the Rev. Henry Cook officiating. The body will lie in state at the church for thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home in Statesville. Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as active pallbearers and members of the Adult men's #2 Sunday school class of Beulah Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
