Marion Barnhill "Barney" Ballance, 88, of Richmond and formerly of Norfolk, passed away May 6, 2004.
A native of Swan Quarter, N.C., Mr. Ballance retired from civil service after 21 years of service. He was a former owner and operator of the Gulf Station previously located at Maple and Granby streets. He was predeceased by his wife, Margaret W. Ballance; three sisters and two brothers.
He is survived by his daughter, Gwen English and her husband Gary; a son, Donald M. Ballance and his wife Gail; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be conducted Saturday at noon in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Lamb officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 11:30 a.m. until service time.
