In later years he was in the business of home sales, for a while with his brother Oscar and then independently. He would buy items wholesale and sell them door to door, extending credit when necessary and making monthly collections.
Louis died of cancer at the young age of 63. Louis and Delouise had no children and lived in Detroit throughout their marriage. Delouise originally came to Detroit from Fowler, Michigan and was the daughter of Louis' father, Louis J.B. La Faive's 1st cousin.
