Louis was the fourth child of Louis J. LaFaive and Celima (nee Germain) and was born in Grand Marais, Michigan in the upper peninsula on July 11, 1903. He moved to Detroit with his parents from Grand Marais, in 1917. He had little schooling beyond the ninth grade, and became a delivery jumper for the J.L. Hudson Company in Detroit at about the age of fifteen.
Thereafter he worked in various automobile plants and married Delouise Rochon in Detroit July 4th, 1924.
In later years he was in the business of home sales, for a while with his brother Oscar and then independently. He would buy items wholesale and sell them door to door, extending credit when necessary and making monthly collections.
Louis died of cancer at the young age of 63. Louis and Delouise had no children and lived in Detroit throughout their marriage. Delouise originally came to Detroit from Fowler, Michigan and was the daughter of Louis' father, Louis J.B. La Faive's 1st cousin.
