Ada Nelle Shropshire Jamar
Ada Nelle Shropshire Jamar was all this and more to her family and friends throughout her long life which ended on Tuesday, January 27, 2004. Born October 21, 1915 at Gainesville, Texas, Ada moved to Austin as a child so two of her brothers could attend the Texas School for the Deaf.
She married Harrell M. Jamar in 1935. They lived in Austin until 1967 when they moved to Houston.
The focus of their lived was the family they created: nine children, 17 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. One son, Tommy, died at age three in 1941. The other children are Janet Driskell and husband, Monte of Lovelady, Harrell M. Jamar, Jr. and wife, Trudy of Houston, JoNelle Riffe and husband, Punch, Jeff Jamar and wife, Juaneva, Phyllis Jamar, Cindy Jamar, all of Austin, Kim Jamar Vasek, and Walter E. Jamar and wife, Sheila, of Beeville.
Ada's devotion to her children was redeemed by Cindy Jamar. Following Harrell's death in 1979, Cindy relocated to Houston to live with her mother and has dedicated her life to Ada's happiness. Cindy and Ada returned to Austin in 1997.
The family thanks the amazing people of Hospice of Austin for their advice and extraordinary support.
Visitation with the family will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 29, 2004, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home.
A celebration of Ada's life will be held at 3:30 p.m., Friday, January 30, 2004 in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Ann Hagmann officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Annex Cemetery.
