Born Feb. 25, 1871 at Morgantown, W. Va., Mr. Gapen was a son of the late Daniel and Sarah Evans Gapen. He had resided in the Willow Tree community, near Greensboro, for the past 43 years and was a member of the Mt. Olive Methodist Church.
Mr. Gapen is survived by his wife, Lillian Barbe Gapen; one daughter, Mrs. Harley (Helen) Six of Oak Hill, W. Va.; three sons, George Gapen Jr. of Mapletwon, John R. Gapen of Waynesburg, Greene County agent, and Clark Gapen of Greensboro, R. D.; four grandchildren, and one sister, Miss Retta Gapen of Morgantown, W. Va.
