To his family, he will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who always showed tender loving care to all children, young and old. Mr. Barnes was a member of Bailey's Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a carpenter and a farmer. Mr. Barnes was a member of the Piedmont Fox Hunters Association and was a supporter and loyal fan of Davie Little League Baseball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Pat Ann Barnes; a grandson, Jerry Barnes, Jr.; three sisters, Annie McCarter, Alma Hardiman and Betty Plott; and five brothers, Howard, Calvin, Green, Jay and Homer Barnes.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Edna Isgett Barnes of the home; four children, Jerry "Flop" (Melinda) Barnes, Faith Barnes (Henry) Harris and Kathy Jo Barnes (Ricky) Boger, all of Advance and Joyce Barnes (Doug) Bullard of Mocksville; seven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Charlie Coy Barnes of Advance; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 18, at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Ed Carter and the Rev. Tony Owens officiating. Interment will follow in Bailey's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17, at the funeral home.
