Rickey Everett Long, 56, of Cherokee, KS, passed away at 6:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 18, 2010, at Via Christi Hospital, Pittsburg.

He was born September 27, 1953, to E. M. and Joan Reich Long at Holdenville, OK.

On April 24, 1981, he was united in marriage to Mary Long in Seminole, OK. She survives of the home in Cherokee, KS.

Rickey worked hard all of his life, as a roughneck and a truck driver for most of his life. He was a dedicated family man who never shied away from hard work. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Membership was held in the First United Methodist Church of Cherokee.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Joan Long of Sasakwa, OK, three sisters, Darline Wyrick of Sasakwa, OK, Jeannie Long of Konawa, OK and Nancy Dority of Sasakwa, OK, two daughters, Jody Long of Cherokee, KS and Jamie Long of Cherokee, KS, two sons, Joshua Long of Cherokee, KS and Joseph Long of Pittsburg, KS and five grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Services are set for 10:00 a.m., Monday, August 23, 2010, at the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, with Earl Russell conducting the service. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery, Cherokee, KS. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Brenner Mortuary, Pittsburg, KS.
