"MRS. LADD’S DEATH IS MOURNED BY MANY COUNTY FOLK

After a lingering illness, Mrs. A. H. Ladd, a pioneer resident of Stanislaus County, passed away at her home on the Stanislaus River, four and one-half miles east of Salida, early Friday morning. Besides her husband, Albert H. Ladd, she leaves three children, Mrs. Earl Hottel, Mrs. Chas. Wilder and Willard F. Ladd. There are also two grandchildren, Elizabeth and Margaret Hottel. Mrs. Ladd was a sister of Mrs. M. E. Byrum, of Salida, who is now the sole survivor of a family of nine sisters.

Mrs. Joanna Ladd was born October 31, 1858, at Loring’s Ferry, Three miles east of Oakdale. She the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pleasant R. Feagins, who crossed the plains with an ox team in 1852. At the age of three months Mrs. Ladd moved with her parents to the old Feagins home, which was situated east of Salida on the Stanislaus river and is now known as the Newman ranch.

In March, 1877 she was married to L. O. Brewster, a pioneer Californian, and moved to the Brewster homestead, where she resided until the time of her death. Mr. Brewster died in 1891.

On March 23 Mar 1893, Mrs. Brewster was married to Albert H. Ladd of Boston. Three children blessed this union.

Mrs. Ladd was an earnest Christian character. She was a devoted member of Centenary Methodist church and a charter member of the Sylvan Improvement Club. Mrs. Mrs. Ladd was splendid type of charitable pioneer womanhood – a devoted wife and mother, a true friend and loyal supporter of every worthy cause. The Ladd home has long been known of its genuine spirit of hospitality, by a wide circle of friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock, Monday afternoon from the Centenary Methodist church, Doctor Williams and Rev. Martin officiating."

Joanna was the ninth (and final) daughter born to Pleasant Ruffins & Elizabeth (Jones) Feagins; early pioneers of Stanislaus County, California
In 1878, she married Leonard Oramil (L.O.) Brewster, long-time friend of her parents. She was widowed December 31, 1891. There were no chidlren born of this marriage.

In 1893, Joanna married Albert H Ladd of Modesto, California. Three children were born of this marriage: Albertina Lucinda, Joanna Elizabeth, & Willard Feagins.
