Helen Shaffer Brandt, 91, of Northwest Ave., Bellingham, WA, formerly of Marshfield, MA, died Thursday, (December 16, 1999) in the Staffholt Good Samaritan Center, Blaine, WA, after an illness. Her husband, George F. Brandt, died in 1974. She leaves a son, Ernst H. Brandt, III, of Bellingham, WA; three daughters, Vaughne Jackson of Ormond Beach, FL, Patricia Clemence of Southbridge, MA, and Helen White of Rochester, NY; three sisters, Deborah S. Cave, of West Hartford, Jane Smith of Branford, and Frances Hayes of Bloomfield; 22 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. A son, George T. Brandt, of Marshfield, MA, died in 1998. She was born in Bristol, CT, the daughter of Francis Asbury and Gertrude Hill (Barrow) Shaffer. She lived most of her life in Marshfield, MA, before moving to Bellingham, WA, several years ago. Mrs. Brandt worked throughout her life in the construction business with her husband and sons, operating MECO Construction in Marshfield, MA. Her passion was time spent gardening, growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers. A memorial service will be held Saturday, February l2, at 10:00 a.m. in the Marshfield United Methodist Church, Marshfield, MA, with the Rev. Charles Hartman officiating. Burial will be private at the Cedar Grove Cemetery, Marshfield, MA. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association of Eastern Mass., Inc., One Kendall Square, Building 600, Cambridge, MA, 02139.
