Leonard Ephraim Evans the son of Rev. Abner and Catherine Evans was born at Mt. Pleasant, Arkansas, July 14, 1878 and departed this life September 27, 1957 at Bakersfield, California, at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 1'3 days.

He moved to Calico Rock when he was a young man and in June 1907, he was married to Miss Myrtle Rudolph. To this union were born two daughters, Helen and Mae.

Having united with the Barren Fork Cumberland Presbyterian Church in his youth, he together with his wife and two daughters was a charter member of the Calico Rock Cumberland Church which he served as session clerk until he moved from the community.

For some 40 years Mr Evans served calico Rock and the people of this area as a druggist; and he was always concerned about the happiness and spiritual well being of the people here as he was about their physical well being.

In 1947 he moved to Bakersfield, California where he resided until his death.

He is survived by his two daughters, Mrs Helen Sears and Mrs Mae Brummitt, both of Bakersfield, California; one brother, Claude Evans of Little Rock; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Having served others well, he was loved by many and the things he did and the principals he stood for will remain a monument to his life.

Funeral services will be conducted today (Thursday) at 1:00 p.m. at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Shaw Scates and Rev. Warren Blake, both of Memphis and Rev. Franklin Chesnut, Calico Rock officiating.
