Mrs Mary C. Evans a pioneer and well known resident of this county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Kate McSpadden, at Mount Pleasant, last Saturday, Feb. 10, at 7 a.m. following a brief illness. She was in comparatively good health until about two weeks preceding her death, when she suffered an attack of apoplexy, never rallying from the attack, though maintained a state of consciousness to the last. Mrs. Evans was born in Tennessee and when quite young she moved to Kentucky with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. David Morrow. In 1853 they moved to Arkansas locating at Barren Fork, now Mt. Pleasant. Deceased was married the following year to Rev. A. C. Evans who passed away in 1898. To this union were born twelve children, ten of whom are still living - Dr. D. E. Evans of Harrison, L. L. Evans and L. E. Evans of Calico Rock, Dr. A. A. Evans of Bald Knob, J. W. Evans and R. B. Evans of Batesville, Mrs. Alice Sims of Cushman, Claude Evans, Mrs. L. E. McSpadden and Mrs. Kate McSpadden of Mount Pleasant.Mrs. Evans possesed all the admirable traits of the true type of Christian, having lived a devoted member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church since childhood. She was of a very kind and benevolent spirit, she having spent a life of unselfish service in behalf of the community where she died, and many are the friends who join the family and relatives in mourning the death of this noble character, whose life has been an inspiration to those about her. One of the most pleasant occasions in the later days of the life of deceased was a reunion at her home Thanksgiving Day, that being her 85th birthday and which was attended by her ten living children. Funeral services were held at Barren Fork Church Sunday, conducted by Rev. J.S. Bone of Mt. Pleasant and Rev. D.R. Robertson of Mt. Olive. All her children were present. The remains were laid to rest in Barren Fork Cemetery.
