BIOGRAPHY UPDATED on 30 Dec 2023

Charlotte Moon was born around 8 Jul 1856 in Cannon County, Tennessee probably near the Bradyville area. Besides census records and a gravestone picture, there are limited sources to indicate her exact birthdate. Census records indicate a birth year range between 1856-1858, with Jul 1858 being the most detailed as listed in the 1900 census.
Her gravestone lists 8 Jul 1859, however this is incorrect since her younger sister was born in Jul 1858 as identified on the 1860 and 1870 census. Based on her parent's residence in Cannon County as well as all the census and cemetery records indicating her birth in Tennessee, I am confident that she was born in the Cannon County area. Because of these numerous conflicts, I cannot state with 100% certainty her exact birth date and birth location. However, based on the preponderance of evidence, I am assessing the above information is correct until other evidence is obtained to prove otherwise.

Her parents were John Moon and Charity Charlotte Edwards. She had at least seven siblings; Martha Frances, Jacob Templeton, Josephine, John A, Margaret, Sarah and Tennessee Drucilla. In addition, they had a half-brother, John Britton Moon, from their father's first marriage. She also went by the name Lottie which was identified in several sources over the years.

Early in life, she lived with her parents and siblings in Cannon County, Tennessee, probably near the Bradyville area. According to the 1860 United States Federal Census taken on 18 Jun 1860, she lived near Bradyville in Cannon, Tennessee. At the time, Charity Moon was 4 years old and lived with her parents John Moon (31) and Charity (28) along with her sister Martha (2). Of note, they lived close to her Aunt Lottie and her family. According to the 1870 United States Federal Census taken on 22 July 1870, they were living near Woodberry in District 4, Cannon County, Tennessee. At the time, Charlotte Moon was 13 years old and lived with her parents John Moon (44) and mother Charlotte (36) and her 5 siblings; Martha F (12), Jacob (10), Josephine (6), John (4) and Margaret (2).

Records indicate Charlotte and David may have had 11 children; however only 9 are known; Martha Elizabeth (m. Jacobs), John B, Phillip Houston, Maggie (m. Berry), Joseph, Rebecca Francis (m. Quick), James Robert, Clarence William, and Kelly Kenneth. According to the 1900 census records, they may have had an additional 2 children, although they passed away prior to 1900. Her children are as follows:

Martha "Bettie" Elizabeth Davis is assessed to be born around July 1875 in Tennessee. Based on where the family lived at the time, she was probably born near Woodbury in Cannon County. Throughout the years, numerous inconsistences exist in sources and evidence with regards to her birth date. At the age of 20, Martha and 21-year-old John Franklin Jacobs were married on Sunday, 3 Nov 1895 at 10:00 a.m. at her parent's residence in Douglas County, presumably near the city of Ava, Missouri. Tragically, after only 17 years of marriage, John passed away in 1912. Martha married John Ambrose Dippo on 16 Apr 1914 in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. Records indicate Martha and John had 8 children; Vernie Clarence, Charles Frederick, Mabel Florence (m. Richman/Eason), Jessie Marie, Margaret Frances, Dorothy Clair, and twins Everett Franklin and Evelyn Elizabeth. Tragically, like John, three of her children (Jessie, Margaret and Evelyn) passed away from Tuberculosis at a very young age. It appears Martha and John Dippo did not have any children of their own. Martha passed away at the age of 93 on Monday, 8 Jan 1968 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Kansas City, Jackson County, Missouri. She was laid to rest on 10 Jan 1968 at Mount Washington Cemetery in Independence, Jackson County, Missouri.

John B Davis is assessed to be born around Mar 1878 in Tennessee. Based on where the family lived at the time, he was probably born near Woodbury in Cannon County. His exact birth location is unknown, however records are consistent with Tennessee. His marriages and children are unknown. Death is unknown, however due to the lack of sources and evidence past the 1900 census, he may have passed away prior to 1910. He is not mentioned in any of his siblings or parent's obituaries from 1927 on.

Philip Houston Davis was born on 27 Nov 1880 in Cannon County, Tennessee. Based on where the family lived at the time, he was probably born near Woodbury. It appears Philip married twice during his lifetime. At the age of 25, Philip and 26 year old Charlotte Berry were married on 12 Oct 1905 in Seattle, King County, Washington. Tragically, Charlotte passed away from Tuberculosis just four months later in Feb 1906. At the age of 28, Philip and 25 year old Effie May Davis were married on 10 Sep 1909 in Seattle, King County, Washington. Philip and Effie had 2 children; Ira Boyd and Philip Ivan. Philip passed away at the age of 89 at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, 27 Aug 1970 at the Mabel Nichols Rest Home in Mansfield, Wright County, Missouri. He was laid to rest on 31 Aug 1970 in Ava Cemetery in Ava, Douglas County, Missouri.

At the age of 20, Maggie and 18-year-old Eustace L Berry were married on 18 Oct 1903 at her parent's house in Douglas County, Missouri. Tragically, Eustace passed away in 1910 at the young age of 25. It does not appear she ever remarried. Maggie and Eustace had two children; Orval E and Lawrence Ray. There are indications that an infant may have passed away shortly after birth in 1904. Maggie passed away from Cholemia (liver disease) the age of 43 at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, 3 Feb 1927 at St. John's Hospital in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. She was laid to rest on 6 Feb 1927 in section P4 at Baxter Springs Cemetery in Baxter Springs, Cherokee County, Kansas.

Joseph Davis was born on 16 Apr 1886 in Woodberry, Cannon County, Tennessee. At the age of 27, Joseph and 23-year-old Caroline Lena Busch were married on 21 Feb 1914 in Seattle, King County, Washington. It does not appear they had any children. Joseph passed away at the age of 81 on Tuesday, 12 Dec 1967 in a hospital in Seattle, King County, Washington after a long illness. He was laid to rest in the Heather Garden at Floral Hills Cemetery in Lynnwood, Snohomish County, Washington.
