Clinton Perry "CP" Mounce was born in Wayne County, Kentucky on 20 Dec 1833 to William Mounce and Mary Ann "Polly" Sloan Mounce. In 1855, C.P. married Mary Simmons Veal, daughter of William and Delila Veal. In 1858, they bought a farm in Jasper County, Missouri where they lived until 1861 when he went to Kansas to enlist in the Sixth Kansas Cavalry. Although wounded in Missouri, he served until the end of the war. He returned to his farm in Missouri and lived there with his family until 1870 before moving to the Choctaw Nation for 4 years. In 1874 he moved to Texas where he farmed 785 acres.
