"Another Pioneer Gone
George Bushong sen., died December 11th 1880 at the advanced age of 93 years, 10 months, 11 days. He was born in Kentucky. Came to Ross county, Ohio with his parents
when but a youth; came to Putnam county in 1834; opened a farm in Pleasant township and went through all the privations of a pioneer life of this county. Mr. Bushong served as a soldier in the war of 1812, and was drawing a pension from the Government at the time of his death. He was a member of the Christian Church for a number of years, and a few hours before he died he said all was well, the way was clear. His funeral was preached at Pendleton to an attentive congregation. He was interred by the side of his companion in the cemetery in Pendleton."

"Grandfather Bushong, well known old resident of Putnam county, was buried here last Sabbath. The funeral was preached by Mr. _____, the Christian minister from Grove.
Mr. Bushong had reached the advanced age of ninety-four years, lacking one month. Dec. 14 1880."
George married Lydia Rush Feb 16 1809 in Ross County, Ohio.
They had about thirteen children.

In the War of 1812, George was drafted into the 2nd Ohio Militia. He was a Sergeant, in Captain David Lyon's Company, part of Colonel John Furguson's Regiment, in the Division of General Robert Lucas.
The Company helped to break the siege of Fort Meigs, allowing General William Henry Harrison and his men to break out.
Drafted July 1813.
Discharged September 1813.
