Rites Thursday for John L. Evans
Funeral services for John L. Evans, of Emerson will be held this Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the Lindell-Sellergren Funeral Home in Red Oak, Iowa.
Mr. Evans died Monday at the Shenandoah Hospital.

Death took another member of a prominent east Mills county family when John L. Evans, 85 died December 28, following a long illness.
Funeral services were held December 31 at the Sellergren-Lindell Funeral Home in Red Oak with burial in the Emerson Cemetery.
Mr. Evans, the son of Marion L. and Hattie Mae Tubbs Evans, was born in Emerson and lived his entire life in that community. He attended Emerson schools and also Harvard University.
He managed the family land holdings until his retirement and was active in the Masonic lodge in his home community. He also served as county defense bond chairman during World War II.
He was married June 20, 1912 to Elsie Lyon who survives him Surviving children include three sons, Jack of Fremont, Nebraska, Donald of Omaha, and Russell of Shenandoah. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
His brother Kenneth A., former Iowa lieutenant governor, died December 11, 1970.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Shenandoah; of Humanity Lodge No 378, A. F. & A. M. Emerson; Tangier Shrine, Omaha, Knights Templer, Omaha, Omaha Consistory of Scottish Rite; and of Elks Lodge of Red Oak.
Funeral services were conducted by Father Calvin K. Hedelson of Shenandoah. Serving as pall bearers were Evan Belt, Jack Evans, John Evans, David Evans, Volney Evans, Thomas L. Evans, Thomas M. Evans, and Melvin Waterman.
Caring for the flowers were Mrs. L. C. Blank and Mrs. Frances Harmon, Mrs. Russell Benda had charge of the Memory Book.
Masonic rites were conducted by members of Humanity Lodge with Frederick Larson as worshipful master.
