from the Republican for Jan. 10, 1957:
Mr. and Mrs. Asa Scott were killed instantly Monday morning when their 1955 Chevrolet automobile was struck by a train of the Peoria and Eastern Division of the New York Central System at North Green Street in Pittsboro. They had been to the home of Johnny Lovell where they were having a hog butchered and were on their way to attend the funeral of Mrs. Ezra A. Means at the Flanner & Buchanan Mortuary in Broad Ripple when the accident occurred. Mrs. Means and Mrs. Scott were girlhood friends and had celebrated their birthdays together since the age of 13. It is reported the Scott's view may have been obstructed by a nearby grain elevator. Double rites will be conducted this morning at 10:30 am at the Lizton Christian Church for the Scotts. Mr. Scott was the father of Chrystal Hoover and Ann Gibbs, both of Indianapolis; Mildred McIntyre of Whitestown; Violet Randle of Lebanon and Russell Scott of Pittsboro. He was the brother of Mary Pickel of Crawfordsville, Rella Brown of New Ross, Flora Ellis of Danville, Virgil and Orville Scott, both of Indianapolis. Surviving Mrs. Scott are her step-children, listed above.
