Mrs. Emma Jeffries was the victim of a fatal accident which occurred in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davenport in Eldon about noon Friday. Mrs. Jeffries, with her husband, Rev. Orville Jeffries, had been visiting her parents since Monday. They were preparing to return home Friday afternoon and the family had gathered for a dinner at the Davenport home. Her husband had cleaned and oiled a .22 caliber rifle, after emptying the magazine of cartridges. It is thought that a cartridge had become lodged in the gun unnoticed ant it accidentally discharged, fatally shooting Mrs. Jeffries through the chest. A physician was called immediately. Death came quickly. The accident happened in the family living room. This is the first death in the immediate family of Mr. and Mrs. Davenport and was indeed a sad affair.

Emma Levonia Davenport was born at Iberia, Mo., May 10, 1908. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davenport. She passed away at the home of her parents June 23, 1944, being only 36 years of age.

She was united in marriage to Rev. R.O. Jeffries March 28, 1926. Rev. Jeffries is a minister of the Assembly of God Church and was pasturing at Lathrop, Mo. His wife assisted him, especially with singing. She was a devoted wife and a strong church worker. She had been a true Christian since childhood.

The Bible she now holds in her hands she loved and cherished and had read it through several times.

A small nephew and niece preceded her in death. She leaves to mourn her passing, her loved companion; her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Davenport of Eldon; four sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Oval (Ethel) Crane, Ulman; Mrs. Marshall (Alice) Jeffries, Eldon; Rev. C.A. Davenport, Carrollton, Mo.; Nelson Davenport, Treasure Island, U.S. Navy; Mrs. Victor (Blanche) Keeth, Eldon; Mrs. Clinton (Velma) Barnhart, Eldon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held in the Assembly of God Church in Eldon, Wednesday at 2 p.m. Rev. Roy Scott, superintendent of the West Central District of the Assembly of God, had charge of the service. Interment was in the Eldon Cemetery, directed by Kays Funeral Home.
