W.S. "Doug" Douglas, 80, laid down his earthly burden and answered the call of the angels on Saturday, July 10, 2010. The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010 at Donnelly's Colonial Funeral Home Chapel, 606 West Airport Freeway in Irving. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4144 N. Central Expressway, Suite 750, Dallas, TX 75204, (please specify Alzheimer's research). Burial will be at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving. Pallbearers will be Brandon Hindman, Gary Blake, Bill Davis, Jerry Kralich, Bo Rankin, and Jason Benzmiller. Born September 1, 1929 in Minco, Oklahoma, he was the son of Briggs G. "Sid" and Addie Harper Douglas. He met the love of his life, Joy Davis, when as a very young man, he drove her school bus. They married June 2, 1951 and enjoyed 59 years together. Doug wore many hats throughout his life-farmer, railroad man, carpenter, RVer, hunter, fisherman and sports enthusiast, but his most treasured occupations were husband, father, Paw Paw and friend. Preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Addie Harper Douglas; sister, Marie Handke; brother, Sidney Douglas; brother, Lester Douglas; brother, Wayne Douglas; sister, Carolyn Beeman; great grandson, "Baby" Hunter Hindman; and granddaughter-in-law, April Hartnett. He is survived by his wife Joy; daughter Sherry Kirby and husband, Gary; son, Stanley; brother, Ronald Douglas; sister, Larena Brown; granddaughter, Cyne Hindman and husband Brandon; grandson, Aaron Hartnett; Precious great grandchildren, Tyra, Mackenzie and Mason, whom he had to leave too soon; and many beloved family members and friends.
