Hubert W. Bennett

Hubert W. Bennett of Roby passed away Monday, November 6 in Colorado City, Texas. Services for Mr. Bennett were at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church of Roby with his nephew, Richard Melton, and Rev. Steve Patterson officiating. Burial was in the Roby Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee Funeral Home.

Mr. Bennett was born August 30, 1914 in Grayson County to J. J. Bennett and Eula Neves Bennett. The Bennett family had followed work to Oklahoma where both parents passed away during the Oklahoma flu epidemic of 1918. Eula Bennett's father, George Neves of Roby, travelled by train to Oklahoma and brought the entire Bennett family home to Roby. The parents were buried in the Roby Cemetery and the children, twin boys, Hubert and Herbert "Hub" age 4, and a daughter, Mattie age 2, were lovingly cared for and nurtured by their grandparents on the Neves home place east of Roby. Hubert married Ora Melton in Sweetwater on November 3, 1949, She preceded him in death. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Roby, a loving husband and father, an avid fisherman, and serious domino player. "Pa" , as he was known to his family, will be always be remembered as a man who loved his family and friends.

Survivors include one son, Jim Bennett of Huntington Park, CA; one daughter, Judy Gann of Snyder; one step-son Don Bolton, of Roby; three stepdaughters, Carlene Moore of Roby, Sandra Vlasin of Colorado City, and Tommie Kinsey of Onalaska; one twin brother, Herbert "Hub" Bennett and one sister, Mattie Eaton Landers both of Roby; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
