Nathan was the second of ten children born to Barnabas 'Barney' and Nancy (Kivett) York. He married Rebecca Fogleman in 1844 and they had twelve children: Francis Marion, Amanda, Martha, Asbury, Sylvester, Laura, Lucinda Ellen., Mary Alice, Dayton M., Louisa, Nathan Oscar and Myrtle A.

Nathan York, better knows as "Uncle Nathan" died at the residence of his son here Monday evening of a complication of diseases. This removes one of our best citizens, Uncle Nathan was esteemed by all as a good citizen and a kind father. He had been a sufferer for over a year.
