Born March 17, 1924; Died May 23, 2018. GLADYS BOOTH SCOTT KIGHT passed away Wednesday, May 23, in Huntington, West Virginia, at the age of 94. Gladys was born in Louisa, Kentucky, to Henry and Dixie Booth and was one of eight children. She attended high school in Louisa, where she was a State High School Track champion. She graduated from St. Mary's Nursing School in Huntington, W.Va., as a Registered Nurse, and she worked at St. Mary's Hospital in the operating room for 42 years. It was during school that she met her husband, James L. Scott, on a blind date arranged by her good friend and fellow student, Dorothy Rader Kight and her husband Duke Kight. The families remained close friends for many years. Gladys was preceded in death by her first husband, James L. Scott, and by her second husband, Julius Clark (Duke) Kight; seven brothers and sisters, Laura Stratton (Louisa, Kentucky), Irene Green (Ashland, Kentucky), Ruth Lawson (Middleton, Ohio), Everette Booth (Louisa, Kentucky), Harold Booth (St. Albans, WV), Noah Booth (killed in action in WWII) and Calvin Booth (St. Albans, WV). She is survived by a sister, Alma (and Edsil) Branham (Ohio), five stepchildren, Valerie Kight (Charlotte, N.C.), Viveca (and Jim) Leusch (Portland, OR), Jay (and Joyce) Kight (Charlotte, N.C.), Jayne Kight (Charlotte, N.C.) and Kim (and Randy, deceased) Prohovich (Franklinville, N.C.); two grandchildren, Harrison and Leigh Ann Kight; sister-in-law, Grace Khuri; brother-in-law, Don (and Jenette) Kight; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was a longtime member of the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church and an avid Marshall University football fan who had tickets on the ill-fated Marshall football team flight but was unable to go. The Kight children are forever grateful that she had to work that weekend instead, enabling us to ultimately welcome her into our family. A very special thanks to the staff at Woodlands Retirement Community for the wonderful and caring support they provided Gladys. A memorial service will be held on May 26 at 11 a.m., conducted by the Reverend Cinda Harkless. Visitation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Beverly Hills Presbyterian Church, 469 Norway Avenue, Huntington, WV 25705. Chapman's Mortuary is assisting the family. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.chapmans-mortuary.com.
