"EU" Snider served as Undersheriff of Johnson County during 1882. During the Johnson County Cattle Wars he was appointed Field Commander. EU along with Arapahoe Brown came up with the idea of building a movable fort or breastwork. This was used at the siege at the TA ranch.

He was elected Sheriff in November of 1886 and served as Sheriff of Johnson County for two years.

E.U was also know as Elias J or "Pete" Snider. His last name was originally Ulmsnider but when the family move to Wyoming, they dropped the "Ulm"

Last Saturday old friends and comrades paid the last honors to the remains of one of the pioneers of Johnson county, Mr. E.U. Snider. The funeral arrangements were under the charge of Buffalo Lodge No 7, Knights of Pythias, of which body he was a charter member. The G.A.R. of which organization Mr. Snder was also a charter member attended in a body and paid military honor to their comrade. At the funeral services held at the house at 1 pm, only friends of the family were resent, but the Episcopal church where the public services were held at 2pm was filled beyond its seating capacity. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev Mr Robinson, pastor of the Methodist church, followed by the Rev H.H. Austin who spoke of the life and chacter of the deceased.
E.U. Snider was born March 6, 1842, at Mansfield, Ohio. Though a mere lad at the time the war broke out, he enlisted at the first call and served honorably for three years. He was a cabinet maker by trade but tried his fortune at various occupations til 1876 when he came to Johnson county as the sutler of old Fort Reno. Since then he has been identified with the development of this section. He was member for Carbon county in the territorial legislature and was largely instrumental in obtaining the court house for Buffalo and in organizing the county of Johnson. He was treasurer and the first probate judge of the new county. In 1886 he was elected sheriff and served in that capacity for two years. In 1893 he was a Populist member of the state legislature. Though a man of unusual mental ability and considerable business axumen, he was too generous and uncalculating to amass a fortune. His characteristics were kindness, liberality and public spirit. Such virtues would atone for many faults. Mr Snider leaves behind him hosts of friends and recollections of many private and public services to the citizens and state of Wyoming.
The funeral procession to Willow Grove cemetery was the largest for many years and spoke more eloquently than words of the esteem in which Mr Snider is held by the community.
