Final rites for Mrs. Marguerite Perkins, 81, a member of a Johnson county pioneer family who died Sunday at a Powell nursing home, will be held today (Thursday) at 2 pm from St. Peter's Episcopal church in Sheridan with the Rev. Raymond Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Willow Grove cemetery with Adams Funeral Home in charge.
Mrs. Perkins, born on June 25, 1892 in Illinois, was the daughter of E.U. Snider, the first permanent settler in Johnson county who had come to Wyoming in the 1850's. She attended Buffalo schools, Nebraska State Teachers Colllege and the University of Wyoming.
For many years she taught in rural schools and later at the Looi Mines north of Sheridan. In 1918 she married Benjamin B. Perkins and together they operated stores in Gillette. She was chairman of the Republican party for many years and had served as Red Cross chairman for nine years.
She was widowed in 1928 and then homesteaded alone in the Trabing area southeast of Buffalo. She later moved to Sheridan where she was active in St. Peter's Church, serving on the original chimes committee and the Altar Guild. She was a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Sheridan, Woman's Club and Sheridan Country Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary Flanigan of Cody; a brother, Elias of Sheridan; two nieces. Mrs. Harold Meike of Buffalo and Mrs. Bob Way of Sheridan; two nephews, Gene Snider of Buffalo and Dick Snider of Crestline, Calif.; and six grandchildren.
