He resided in Chautauqua County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corps on June 25, 1942 in Buffalo, New York. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as an Actor and Single, without dependents.

Richard was flying, for training purposes, in P51-D5 #44-13589 when it crashed due to engine failure near Walberswick during the war.

He died in the "Line Of Duty" in this crash.

He had previously been awarded the Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters.

Richard is interred in Section E ~ Row 2 ~ Grave 114 at the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, England.
