Fred J. Winters, 86, of Greeley, died Friday, August 2 [1996] at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born November 26, 1909 in Oberdorff, Russia to Frederick Weismiller and Mary (Winter) Winters. On January 11, 1931, he married Ann Wolfe in Eaton. She died May 12, 1984. Mr. Winters came to the United States when he was one year old. His mother died giving birth. At age 4, he lived with his uncle Godfred Winter and his wife Mary, who reared him in Eaton. He farmed east of Greeley for 40 years before moving to Greeley in 1981. He worked on several farms until he bought his own. He was recognized as a top-ten sugar beet grower for 13 years and was an original member of the "10,000
Pound Sugar Club." Upon retirement he became an accomplished furniture maker. He was a member of St.Paul's Congregational Church. Survivors are a daughter, Dixie Ann Hoffner of Greeley; a son, Jerry D. Winters of Greeley; a granddaughter, Lori Ann Hoffner of Greeley; and a grandson, Frederick Thomas Winters of Denver. His parents; an infant son; an infant daughter; his wife Ann; two brothers; four sisters; and a grandson, Bryan Dean Hoffner, are deceased.
Memorial Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at Allnutt Funeral Service Macy Chapel. Interment will be at
Eaton Cemetery. Friends and family may visit noon until 5 p.m. Sunday at Macy Chapel. Memorial gifts
may be made to St. Paul's Congregational Church in care of the Macy Chapel.
