She lived in Indiana until 1909. She married William Amos Whitney, December 9 of that year, and moved to the Douglass, KS community where she has made her home since then. Her husband preceded her in death in November, 1953.
She was baptized in the Methodist Church at an early age and has had her membership in it since then. She was a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service (WSCS) of Douglass.
She is survived by one son, David (Medrith) Whitney of the home place, rural Douglass, one daughter, Flava (Leon) Woods of Mulvane, KS; one sister, Mrs. Mary Barcus of Churubusco, IN; and four grandchildren; Patricia Woods of Renton, WA, Leon Woods, Jr. of Wichita; Beth and Mary Whitney of Douglass.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 29, 1972, at 2:00 p.m. at the Douglass United Methodist Church. Rev. B. E. Faulkner officiated. Mrs. C. A. Ogg played as organ solos, "Life is Like A Mountain Railway", and "Going Home". Casket Bearers were Charles Bare, Garland Bare, Hoy Levering, James Potoroff and M. D. McFaddin. Interment was in the Douglass Cemetery. Hilyard Funeral Home was in charge of the service. (Douglass Tribune, May 4, 1972)
