Married Helen Louise Kuhn (daughter of Daniel Kuhn and Ella Kraft) on June 3, 1931 at Hamilton County, Ohio.

Sergeant Fred Kaucher was killed in action during the Battle of Hürtgen Forest, Germany while commanding a Sherman tank.

Originally buried at an unknown American Cemetery in Europe, Fred was brought home and reinterred at Spring Grove Cemetery in 1946.
