David C. Kellam and his first wife Wilhelmina were related distantly through the Jacob, Wilkins, and Bell families of Northampton County.

By his second wife Gawina, a native of Westmoreland County whom he married shortly after hiring her as a governess for his and Mina's three daughters, David C. Kellam had two sons

D.C. Kellam

David Cornelius Kellam, of Shady Side, Northampton County, Va., died March 7th. He was a useful citizen, a man of high sense of honor, a faithful Christian and true friend. He was twice married. His first wife was Miss Lucy Nottingham. From this happy union three daughters survive, Mrs. R.C. [Lillian] Jacob, Mrs. J.W. [Helen] Jackson, of Shady Side and Mrs. J.D. [Wilmina] Brown, of Hague, Westmoreland Co., Va. His second wife was Miss Gawina Corbin Murphy, of Westmoreland. Two sons, David C. and H. Stafford survive this marriage to bless the sainted memory of these parents.

Mr. Kellam lived a useful life. By industry, honesty and economy he acquired a considerable estate, educated his surviving children and dispensed much to charity and religious cause.

The funeral services were conducted from the home by his pastor, Rev. B.E. Hudson, assisted by Rev. Mr. Fereby and Rev. E.P. Jones. A large number of friends and relatives assembled to attest the high esteem in which the deceased was held. The body was laid to rest in the cemetery of Johnsons Church.

Occupation: Merchant at Shady Side, VA; was also an extensive potato grower according to a biography of his son-in-law, James Dall Brown, in "History of Virginia"30

Residence: Shady Side, near Machipongo, Northampton Co., VA. His home and store are on present-day Lankford Highway (Route 13). His daughter Helen and her husband, Dr. J. Walker Jackson, lived across the road.
