One Of County's Oldest Citizens Dies Tuesday
Mrs. Mariah (Marie) D. Crawford, 98, probably the oldest resident of Johnson county, passed away Tuesday, April 14, at Johnson county Memorial hospital after a lengthy illness.
A long-time resident of Iowa and Nebraska, Mrs. Crawford came to Buffalo in 1941 to make her home with her daughter and family. She was born in Boone county, Iowa, Nov. 27, 1854, a daughter of Esau and Sarah Dailey. She was the last survivor of the family of 13 children.
On May 30, 1874, she married Thomas A. Taylor at Boone, Iowa. To this union five children were born, three sons and two daughters. The family moved to Boyd county, Nebraska, in 1897, where Mr. Taylor died in 1908.
Mrs. Taylor married Theodor Crawford on Nov. 18, 1920. she was preceded in death by Mr. Crawford and two sons and one daughter.
Survivors are Mrs. A. J. Ruby of Buffalo, with whom she made her home for several years, and Roy E. Taylor, Norfolk, Neb., 13 grandchildren 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 17, at 2 p.m. from the Wilson Funeral home, with the Rev. S.E. Anaspaugh of the Methodist church officiating.
