Samuel McKay Funeral held here Jan. 5
Funeral services for Samuel McKay, 83, whose death occurred at his home near Sherrard, last Wednesday, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the United Presbyterian church at Aledo, with Rev. S.W. Woodburn officiating. Internment was made in Aledo cemetery.
The obituary follows:
Samuel McKay was born in County Derry, Ireland, Dec. 20, 1845, the son of William and Margaret Loughery McKay, and died near Sherrard, ILL., Jan. 2, 1929, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Andrew (Eliza) Perkins, where he had been making his home. He was married to Margaret Flemming, Nov. 8, 1866 in Bovevagh Parish, County Derry, Ireland, and to this union were born eight children, three daughters and five sons.
Many Survive
Surviving are: Mrs. Mary Selfridge, of Preemption; Mrs. Margaret Lemmons of Union City, Ind.; Mrs. Elizabeth Perkins of Sherrard; (William) John McKay of Thornburg, Ia.; Samuel McKay of Thornburg, Ia.; Robert McKay of Buffalo Prairie. There are also three brothers, one sister, 19 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Mrs. McKay and two sons preceded their father in death.
He was a good and loving father and was liked by all who knew him. He became a member of the United Presbyterian church when a young man.
