Pat Underwood King, 70, passed peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2010, in Abilene. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 10, 2010, in Abilene at Wylie United Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road, with the Reverend Jeff Hatcher officiating. Burial will follow in the Elliott-Hamil Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Monday, August 9, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home, 5701 Highway 277 South in Abilene.

Patsy Lou was born on February 16, 1940 in Ballinger, Texas. She was the daughter of Jack and Vella Mae Ashton. Pat graduated from Ballinger High School and attended Wright Patterson University in Ohio and later graduated with a B.S. in Education from the University of Guam. She married Ellie Barton Underwood, Jr., also from Ballinger, in 1958. They and their son, Brennan, lived in Ohio, California, Washington, and Guam, returning to Abilene in 1982. Pat was a beloved teacher, whose career spanned more than 20 years of service at Bowie Elementary and Mann Middle School until her retirement in 2004. She married John King, of Abilene, in 2006. They enjoyed their many church activities together, and shared a love of traveling far and wide. Pat spoiled her family with her fabulous cooking, was a fierce domino player, adored her cats, loved gardening and flowers, and was the chairman of the canned goods division at the West Texas Fair and Rodeo for several years. More important than any accomplishment, however, was the beauty of Pat's spirit. Anyone who was fortunate enough to share any time with her in this life knew a soul of pure kindness and generosity. She was appreciated and loved by so many, and provided constant support through her love and her smile. She is already missed more than they could have ever imagined, although the positive effect she had in their lives and the joy she brought will live on forever.

Pat was preceded in death by her father. Surviving Pat is her mother, Mae Spiser, of San Angelo; husband, John King; former husband, Bart Underwood; son, Brennan Underwood and wife, Sydney Alderman Underwood, and grandson, Hunter Haralson, of Abilene; and sister, Marvelle Campbell, of Seguin. In addition, she is survived by John's children and grandchildren, Mary and husband, John Lord, and sons, Zachery and Eric; Carol and husband, Pat Donovan, and daughter, Sloan; Paul King and wife, Jennifer, and daughter, Lillian. Nieces and nephews: Michael Bird, Rebecca Gomez, Lee Jay Bird, Marti Yglesias, Dixie Valdez, Geoffrey Connor, Jacqueline Kelly, and Jill McNew-Whetstone; and numerous grand nieces and nephews.

The family requests any memorial donations go to Wylie United Methodist Church, 3430 Antilley Road, Abilene, Texas 79606.
