James Edward Martin, 81, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2007 at the RTA Hospice and Palliative Care Center in Lakeside.

He was born June 28, 1925 in Waurika, Oklahoma to Earl and Marie Martin. Mr. Martin was raised in Harrah, Okla. where he attended school graduating in 1944. James joined the Air Force and served for a year and a half. After his service in the Air Force he moved to California and worked at aircraft plants. He moved to Arizona in 1948 and worked for various manufacturing companies.

James retired from SRP in 1984 after 26 years. He and his wife moved to Overgaard for their retirement. James was very active in the Senior Center. He helped with collecting cans, he collected approximately 50 tons of cans, raising about $30,000 for the Senior Center. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 86 in Overgaard.

James is survived by his sister-in-law, Rayetta Temple of Scottsdale.

Funeral Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Owens Mortuary Chapel in Show Low. Interment will be at a later date in the Heber Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's foundation.
