Louis served as a Sergeant & Tail Gunner on B-17E "De-Icer" #41-9128, 23rd Bomber Squadron, 5th Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

He resided in Camden County, New Jersey prior to the war.

Louis was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 was attacked by Japanese fighters and crashed at sea five miles north-west of Kahili Airfield (Buin) during the war.

He was awarded a "Distinguished Flying Cross with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster", Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters, and the Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster.
