Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 15, 1946.

Irvin served as a Staff Sergeant & Gunner on B-25G #42-64889, 823th Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Marshall County, West Virginia prior to the war.

B-25G #42-64889 took off from 17-Mile Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a strike mission over Wewak, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. While over the target they hit by anti-aircraft fire that severely damaged their left wing and were seen, by other B-25's on the same mission, to crash into the sea north of Cape Boram, Papua New Guinea with the entire crew lost.

Irvin was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.

Irvin also has a "Cenotaph" in the Mount Zion Cemetery, Wheeling, West Virginia with his parents & brother.

His brother, T/Sgt Earl C. Woollenweber, also died in the "Line Of Duty" during World War II.
