Having actually gone "Missing" on the above date, he was not officially declared by the military as being dead until January 15, 1946.

Husband of Lt. Laura F. Stack, Army Nurses Corps, who resided in Garden City, Kansas

John served as a Second Lieutenant & Navigator on B-25G #42-64889, 823th Bomber Squadron, 38th Bomber Group, Medium, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Kent County, Michigan prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on March 20, 1942 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed as a Driver and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his enlistment.

B-25G #42-64889 took off from 17-Mile Drome, Central Province, Papua New Guinea on a strike mission over Wewak, East Sepik Province, Papua New Guinea. While over the target they hit by anti-aircraft fire that severely damaged their left wing and were seen, by other B-25's on the same mission, to crash into the sea north of Cape Boram, Papua New Guinea with the entire crew lost.

John was declared "Missing In Action" in this crash during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
