He Had Long Been a Resident of the Village of Butte des Morts
(Special to the Northwestern) Winneconne, Wis.,June 28 -- The death of Silas Benedict, a leading citizen of Butte des Morts, occurred yesterday following a short illness. The deceased was seventy-four years of age. He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Mary Benedict, one daughter, Miss May Benedict and four sons, Oura, Lester(this should be Jesse), Robert, and Clarence Benedict. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the home, Rev. Edward H. Smith of Oshkosh officiating. The interment will be at the Bell Cemetery near Winneconne.

Story has been told that after Cyrus returned from the Civil War, he bought himself an Indian bride, Mary Fox.

Cyrus was born in 1843. He enlisted at Winneconne on Sept 5, 1863 and was assigned as above. He was mustered out on July 29, 1865. Cyrus was married in Winnebago County on Sept 17, 1866 to Mary Fox. He was listed in the veteran section of the 1885, 1895, and 1905 Wisconsin State census at P.O. Butte des Morts. Cyrus was listed in the 1890 federal census at P.O. Winneconne. Cyrus and Mary were listed in 1905 as residing in the village of Butte des Morts. Jesse, Clarence, and May Benedict were then listed at the same address. Cyrus died 1916. He is buried in the town of Winneconne Bell Cemetery.
