Idris, having gone missing on the above date, was not officially declared as being dead by the military until January 14, 1946.

Idris served as a Technical Sergeant and Engineer on B-17E "Craps For The Japs" (#41-2653), 65th Bomber Squadron, 43rd Bomber Group, Heavy, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in San Francisco County, California prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on February 22, 1942 at the Presidio of Monterey, California. He was noted as being employed in a machine shop and also as being Single, without dependents.

Idris was declared "Missing In Action" when his B-17 did not return on a bombing mission to Cape Gloucester Airfield (Tuluvu) during the war. A group of twelve B-17 were on this mission and they were intercepted by Japanese Fighters and it is believed that his B-17 was shot down by them and crashed into the sea.

He and was awarded an Air Medal and a Purple Heart.
