Virgil Clair Huntley, age 40, had been a US Navy man for 22 years, since 1923. He received his appointment as Chief Warrant Officer with a rating as Chief Cleric last June 1, 1945.

He was born December 9, 1904, in Viola, Illinois, and at the age of two moved with his parents to Davenport, Iowa, where he attended grade and high schools. On September 9, 1923, when he was 18 years old, he enlisted in the US. Navy. He was married to Miss Mary Lee Epperson in Kansas City, MO, in 1931.

Virgil was a member of the Mt. Ida Presbyterian church of Davenport, the VFW, and was a charter member of Ship No. 63, Navy club of Davenport.

He wore eight stars on his Asiatic theater ribbon, in addition to a campaign bar for service in Nicaragua in 1928, and a good conduct award with four stars.

Survivors include his mother; his wife and a daughter, Georgia Clairane of Oakland, CA; his father, George Huntley, of Davenport, and a brother, George Huntley, of Rock Island.
