Edward served in the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment, and was KIA during the Battle for Guadacanal, Solomons Islands, when the PY-boat towed the Higgins-boat (landincraft) increased his speed and the hull split, on Oct. 9, 1942, and he is honored with the Purple Heart.
