Benjamin served as a Technical Sergeant and Gunner on B-24H #42-52287, 747th Bomber Squadron, 456th Bomber Group, U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.

He resided in Hudson County, New Jersey and was previously a member of the New Jersey National Guard prior to the war.

The National Guard unit he was previously a member of was called into full time active Army service on June 9, 1941, prior to the war, from Newark, New Jersey. Since he had only been out of the Guard for less than three months he was called back into service with the unit. He was noted, at that time, as being employed as a Office Clerk and also as Single, without dependents.

He was married sometime after his activation back into the National Guard.

Benjamin was "Killed In Action", while on a bombing mission, when his B-24 was shot down by German Anti-Aircraft and crashed near Wiener Neustadt, Austria during the war.

He was awarded the Air Medal and the Purple Heart.
