Richard William Ayers was born September 12, 1921 in Hartland, Vermont He was the son of William and Bessie Juliette (Robinson) Ayers. He enlisted in the Army at Rutland, VT, October 7, 1942. At the time he was killed, March 23, 1945, he was serving in the 23rd Tank Battalion, 12th Armored Division in Germany.
He was survived by his parents, his wife, Mary (Handly) Ayers and his two month old daughter, Alana Mary. His younger, and only brother, Pvt. Gerald Ayers of the U. S. Marine Corps was killed in 1943.
