Ruben Floyd Negaard, a twin and youngest child, was born on April 17, 1919, at Reva, South Dakota. Ruben's siblings consisted of four boys and four girls, which included another set of twins, of whom one was his brother, Agner, of Hill City, SD.
Ruben graduated from 8th grade and then attended one year of high school. Ruben was confirmed in the Slim Buttes Lutheran Church, where later his memorial service would take place.
Ruben Negaard was 23 when he entered the service on March 26, 1942. S/Sgt. Negaard was stationed at various camps for two years before being sent overseas.
S/Sgt. Negaard debarked in England and then was sent to France as part of the United States invasion forces, 359th Infantry Regiment, 90th Infantry Division. Staff Sergeant Ruben Floyd Negaard was killed in action in France on July 3, 1944, during the Invasion of France. At the time of his death, S/Sgt. Negaard was 25, 2 months, and 16 days old. He is buried at Plot E, Row 17, Grave 7, Normandy American Cemetery, St. Laurent-sur-Mer, France. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
