Private Howard A. Macher died of wounds on August 13th. He enlisted 20 August 1943 in Pittsburgh, and was with the 786th Engineer Petroleum Distribution Company, which was involved in the Normandy Invasion.

Husband of Helen Rock Macher, son of John B and Marion Thornberry Macher. Survived by his sisters Mrs Florence Krebs, Mrs Dorothy Hartman and his brothers, all in the service: in Hawaii: PO John Macher; in Illinois: Pvt. David Macher; and in China: Corp. Walter Macher. He had previously worked at the Curtiss-Wright plant in Beaver Co, PA. He died a few days before his 31st birthday.
